Wet start, Hung start and Hot start

wet start

The main reason and couse of a wet start is an igintion problem , otherwise known as a faliure to start after fuel has been pumpped .

Recognation of wet start :

1-No EGT indication ( does not raise ).

2-RPMS will be stabilize at starter maximum.

Hung start

The main cause of hung start is insufficient airflow to support combustion due to the compressor not supplying enough air .

A hung start occurs when the engine ignites but does not reach self-sustaining speed indication which allow the engine to accelerate on its own without the aid of the starter motor .

when to expect a Hung start ?

1- High altitude , low -density air .

2- Hot condition , low – density air .

3- inefficient bleed air

Recognation of Hung start :

• High EGT , above normal
• Rpm below normal range

Hot start

A hot start is when the engine ignites and reaches self – sustaining speed , but the combustion is unstable cousing the EGT to rise rapidly passing its maximum limit .

causes of hot start :

• airintake blockage .
• exhaust blockage .
• compressor to run backword due to tailwind .
• ice blockage .( engine seized) .
