OBJECTIVE :

As takeoff and landing briefing are part of a pilots daily life a new policy is implementing to make this briefing more valuable for pilots and to increase the level of safety .

WHAT IS BRIEFING ?

Flight crew briefing is a very Essential tools to manage the threat it may effect the flight and enhance the flight safety and Manage the botanical Risks and then discuss the mitigation of those threats .

the second important thing with flight crew briefing is to identify the Deviation from sop ( every thing is not a daily routine .

finally to make you and other flight crew members share a mental model and threats with mitigations .

NOTE :

Briefing must not be confused with repeating SOP the Briefing should complement the SOP and it should not be repetitive of SOP , for this AIRBUS moved a lot of FCTM briefing items to sop items during cockpit preparation and marked by ( BOTH ) .

those items marked with BOTH not to be repeated during the new briefing .

NEW BRIEFING DIVIDED INTO :

The new briefing will always start with the PM after PF and finish the preparation of the FMGS and aircraft .

Why to start with PM ?

the PF can be assured that the PM has same expected monitoring frame work .

Briefing parts are covered for takeoff and approach are the same with a different content :

first part is ( PLAN ) second part ( THREAT ) third part (THREAT MITIGATION) fourth part ( MISCELLANEOUS )

PLAN ( PM ) PART

After aircraft preparation and FMGS ( load sheet , takeoff speed ) and after PM checked as part of SOP takeoff briefing can take a place upon PF Request to start with (PM) and this part of briefing should normally and only contain this items :

1- T/O RWY ( 13L)

2-SID designated ( BAXIR 5H ) checked by both as part of SOP .

3-Initial cleared Altitude as in the SID or in case of Radar Departure.

4-MSA Altitude , Minimum off route Altitude , surrounding obstacle , etc .

5-Mention the EXTRA fuel and time .

PLAN ( PF ) PART

1-Discuss the push direction , expected taxi route , hotspots area , NOTAMS

2-Mention the stop margin available in case of rejected takeoff .

3-Discuss the special company EOSID if available, or STD EOSID

4-To mention if they will return back to the departure aerodrome or will divert .

5-To mention any NON-SOP PROC like ( x-bleed start ,single Eng taxi , etc ).

THREAT ( PM ) PART

Start with PM to mention any threat he can identify like :

1-crew condition if he is tired , fatigue etc

2-any weather change , tail wind expected during takeoff or landing , etc

3-one reverse inop , one pair spoilers , etc

THREAT ( PF ) PART

To Add any strategical THREAT items may effect the operation to be mentioned for the PM .

THREAT Mitigation

The flight crew to discuss how to mitigate the threat like :

speed calculation for one eng reverse inop , how to use the reverse in case of RTO , etc

X-wind takeoff or X-wind landing technique , etc

MISCELLANEOUS

The PF to brief the PM or observer with any procedure like expected windshear , weather avoidance , Anti-icing proc , etc .
